Russ - letter to Mother - 1943 after ChristmasSunday Eve.

Dear Mother

Recd your letter today. No I didn’t hear from Don. Suppose I should write him once in awhile.
Got the Xmas package o.k. Thanks a lot. Did I send a Xmas card home??? Can’t remember. Bought a couple of dozen and still have about half of them left. That a hell of a way to take care of things isn’t it??
It rained here all Xmas day. We had open port but there was absolutely nothing doing in town. This city of Valdosta is really a no good town. Will be very glad to get out of here.
Verns idea of promotion in the Army is all wrong. They used to be good but not any more. I’ll be lucky if I ever make MSgt. & don’t expect to go any further than that. Feb 8th seems like a long way off but time is passing quite fast. We do a lot of flying here, about 70 hr pilot time and around 60 hr co-pilot. Hope we get good weather and finish on schedule. Write.

Russ
